What National Homeownership Month means at Omaha 100

Omaha 100 empowers entrepreneurs with equitable financing.

On Friday, June 21, Omaha Innovation Connection Hub and Omaha 100 welcomed a high-profile visit by Biden Administration official Steve Benjamin, Assistant to the President, Senior Advisor to the President and Director of Public Engagement.

More than 30 years ago, Omaha 100 was formed to help build equality and equity in homeownership in our community. As a Community Development Financial Institution, Omaha 100 is focused specifically on serving those who are underserved by traditional banks, as well as funding opportunities that drive social impact.

A study by Moneyzine revealed that 25% of adults in the US had poor financial literacy, up 5% from 2017. Young adults and teens (Gen Z and Gen Y) know the least about managing money, with only 38% getting answers right on a money quiz. However, 73% of teens across the nation really want to learn more about handling their money better.

The question is why?

During Women's History Month, it's important to shine a light on the challenges women have overcome in our history. As an example, did you know women could not even access their own business loans until the late ‘80s?

Omaha 100 CEO, Malinda Williams had an opportunity to converse with Tim Clark, Manager Of Community Relations for Metropolitan Community College. Their discussion provided some potentially helpful insights for BIPOC community members seeking support along their journey to become homeowners, start their businesses or grow them.
